Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Agyapong, has warned general secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia about his comments on the Menzgold saga.

The warning comes after Mr Nketiah allegedly blamed president Akufo-Addo for the crisis that has led to more than 1 million Ghanaians having their money locked up with gold dealership firm, Menzgold Ghana Limited.

Mr Agyapong, speaking on Adom TV’s morning show, Badwam Tuesday parried the accusations, describing them as baseless.

Mr Agyapong in commenting on the issue asked for holistic treatment of the issues, devoid of politics.

“I won’t allow Asiedu Nketia and his cohorts in the NDC to blame Akufo-Addo for their greed in investing money with Menzgold. If you invested money and your monies have been locked, why should you blame Akufo Addo,” he quizzed.

“It is important that we treat the matter holistically and devoid of politics, then we would know how to retrieve the locked monies,” he stated.

Mr Nketia had said that President Akufo-Addo was partly to blame for the Menzgold saga, claiming the President has an acquaintance with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Menzgold, Nana Appiah Mensah.

Responding to the brouhaha and the subsequent bench warrant for the arrest of Appiah Mensah, Nketia who is popularly known as General Mosquito said: “When DKM saga came up the NPP then in opposition led by Nana Addo used it against the NDC government and tried to link the then government to the development even when there was no link.

But they want to run away from what is happening under their watch whereas there are records to show that the President is close to NAM1 and Nyantakyi.”

But the outspoken MP reacting to Mr Nketia’s claim said the NDC is blaming Akufo Addo because their monies have also been locked up in the gold firm.

He revealed that some MPs who he refused to mention names sold their properties and invested in the gold firm and he believes that has angered some members of the opposition to make such claims.

“How can MPs sell properties including houses to invest in Menzgold and now accuse Akufo-Addo…were they accusing Akufo-Addo when they were taking their fat interests,” he noted.
