The Council of Elders of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has suggested to the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party, after a 3-hour meeting on Wednesday, 5 December 2018, to slash the filing fee for flag bearer-aspirants by GHS100,000, ClassFMonline.com has gathered from sources close to the NDC.

Should the proposal of the Elders be accepted by NEC, the flag bearer-aspirants would be paying GHS320,000 as nomination and filing fees instead of the initial GHS420,000.

Also, the Elders have suggested that the period for the picking of nomination forms should be extended to Saturday, 8 December 2018 while the presidential primary should be moved from 19 January 2019 to 26 January 2019.

The Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the party, ClassFMonline.com learns, is expected to hold an emergency meeting tonight, Wednesday, 5 December 2018 to convey the proposals of the Elders to the NEC.

Almost all the aspirants are unhappy with the exorbitant fees they are required to pay to enable them to contest in the internal polls.

At least two of them, Mr Goosie Tanoh and Mr Alban Bagbin, have hinted at going to court to seek redress on the matter.

Mr Tanoh and seven other aspirants petitioned the Council of Elders and the party’s founder, Mr Jerry John Rawlings, over the GHS420,000 which they described as outrageous.

Mr Tanoh did not pick a nomination forms by the end of the 5 pm deadline on Tuesday, 4 November 2018. However, Prof Joshua Alabi, Mr Sylvester Mensah, and Mr Stephen Atubiga, who were either signatories to the petition or shared in the content of that document, picked their nominations forms nonetheless.

Forms were also picked on behalf of Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Mr Alban Bagbin by some of his supporters but he has rejected it.
