Delali Brempong wins NDC Ayawaso West Wuogon primary
Former parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, Delali Kwasi Brempong has been given the nod to lead the party in the constituency’s upcoming by-election.
This is after he won the party’s parliamentary primary for the area, beating two other contenders, Selassie Agbo and Ekow Acquah.
While Delali Brempong polled 415 votes, Selassie Agbo and former constituency secretary Ekow Acquah got 115 and 119 votes respectively.
A communique issued by the party’s communication officer in the constituency, James Boso indicated that Mr. Brempong had officially been declared the winner of the elections which took place at Englebert School at Roman Ridge on Friday.
Mr. Brempong who contested in the last election for the parliamentary seat, lost to the governing New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Emmanuel Kyeremateng Agyarko who is now deceased.
The demise of Mr. Agyarko necessitated the by-election and saw a number of persons express interest in contesting for the seat.
Four in hunt for NPP ticket.
Six persons initially filed their nomination forms to contest the Ayawaso West Wougon Constituency New Patriotic Party primaries, slated for this Saturday, December 29, have been vetted and approved.
The six included Edward Agyekum Kufour, the second son of former president John Agyekum Kufour and Lydia Agyarko, a wife of the deceased Member of Parliament for the area, Emmanuel Kyeremateng Agyarko.
However the former pulled out of the race citing respect for the late Member of Parliament and his widow, Lydia Alhassan.
At a press briefing, the actor said he stepped down because he was uncomfortable contending with Lydia Alhassan in the same race.
“I decided after the vetting where I saw Madam Lydia, based on the regard I have for the late MP, felt uncomfortable contending with her [Madam Lydia]. I respect the man, I appreciate what he has done, and I look up to the man. I felt I had the capacity and I still do have the capacity, I felt it would have been okay for me to stand on his shoulders to build on the good works that he had accomplished. But when I came to the realization that she was in the race, I had a change of mind,” he explained.
