Mahama storms Parliament
Former President John Mahama yesterday stormed Parliament to have a secret meeting with National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament who have openly declared their unflinching support for his comeback.
The former president who is the first sitting president of the Fourth Republic to have lost in a general election was defeated by then opposition candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo.
It is not known whether his meeting with the NDC MPs yesterday was in connection with the utter dissent by the MPs with regard to the approval of the $12.5 million drone agreement to airlift blood and essential drugs to remote hospitals in the country.
About 95 minority MPs have openly declared their support for the ex-president’s bid to become the party’s flagbearer and lead the party in the 2020 general election.
The agenda for the secret meeting could not be immediately ascertained by this report but it could be related to strategies to prop up more support for the ex-president amongst the NDC MPs as well as grassroots support for his comeback.
Some of the MPs are also against the presidential bid of the former president who they think led the party into a painful defeat.
According to the MPs who are against the bid of the former president, he cannot lead the party into victory in 2020 because the man who defeated him at the polls while in government – President Nana Akufo-Addo – will be contesting him as the incumbent now.
One of the MPs, who is the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, is contesting the former president in the flagbearership race and had recently insinuated that the opposition NDC can never win an election with former president as its presidentia
