President Nana Akufo-Addo has summoned an emergency Cabinet meeting over the Menzgold saga.

The meeting, according to sources, is aimed at finding ways of extraditing the CEO of the troubled company, Nana Appiah Mensah, to Ghana after his arrest in the United Arab Emirates.

A government delegation led by a Deputy Attorney-General Joseph Kpemka, has already arrived in Dubai to meet with United Arab Emirates officials over the matter.
The diplomatic engagement became necessary because there is no extradition treaty between Ghana and the United Arab Emirates.

Nana Appiah Mensah was arrested in Dubai by Interpol. The Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service had sent notices to all 194-member states of Interpol.

According to the Ghana Police Service, they were informed about the arrest of Nana Appiah Mensah by Emirati officials based in Dubai on Sunday, 13th January.

He was arrested as far as December 7, 2018.

But his arrest is said to be in relation to gold deal in that country and not the scandal in Ghana, sources have said.

Prior to Nana Appiah Mensah’s arrest, an Accra Circuit Court issued a warrant for his arrest after charges of defrauding by false pretence contrary to section 131 of Act 29/60.

Warrants were also issued for two other individuals, Benedicta Appiah and Rose Tetteh.

EOCO action

The Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) has frozen some accounts of Nana Appiah Mensah.

Citi News sources at EOCO say the office also plans to seek out accounts belonging to Menzgold and other related businesses.

EOCO in the coming days, will be applying for a court order, to freeze all landed properties belonging to the CEO and his firms.

It has directed all of its regional directors to look out for such assets in the various regions where Menzgold and its related businesses operate.
