New bill before Parliament for two new holidays
Government has laid a new bill before Parliament to amend the Public Holidays Act.
The new bill which was laid by the Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery, seeks to include two more holidays to the country’s holiday calendar.
They are January 7 to be marked as Constitution Day, August 4 as Founders Day and September 21 as Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day.
It will be recalled that prior to the observation of the 2017 Founder’s Day celebration, President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, proposed that August 4 be observed as Founders Day in memory of the successive generations of Ghanaians who contributed to the liberation of the country from colonial rule and September 21 set aside as a memorial day for Dr Kwame Nkrumah.
In line with that, a statement signed by the Director of Communications at the presidency, Mr Eugene Arhin, said an Executive Instrument had been issued by the President to push for legislation of the two dates as public holidays.
