Ghanaian nurses are very ungrateful – Fmr Health Ministry PRO

Robert Cudjoe, the immediate past Public Relations Officer for the Ministry of Health, has thrown a jab at Ghanaian unemployed nurses and midwives, labelling them as ungrateful beings.

Responding to calls made by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, urging government to recruit 40,000 nurses and midwives within the next two years, the enraged Mr Cudjoe, who has also served at the Controller and Accountant General Department before “fired shots” saying,

“ The government has successfully employed thousands of nurses and midwives who were sitting at home for almost 10years without working ever since its assumed power which is quite commendable . So for the association to make such calls on behalf of their 2017 – 2019 unemployed nurses and midwives indicates how ungrateful they are.”

“I don’t know why these people are exerting enormous pressure on the government to recruit an additional 40,000 nurses , do they control the budget , do they know the HR plan, they should be patient because the government is working vigorously to clear every debt and also ensure that nurses will gain employment right after the completion of school.” He said.

Background

Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association called on the government of Ghana to at least recruit not less than 40,000 nurses in the next two years to deal with the shortage of the critical health professionals.

A research conducted by the association estimated that the ratio of a nurse and patient was one (1) to twenty-eight (28) with the country currently having more than 20,000 unemployed nurses and midwives who have graduated.

This was disclosed by the President of Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Dr Kwaku Asante-Krobea, at the opening ceremony of the associations 17th Biennial National Delegates Congress yesterday, at Dodowa, where the second lady of Ghana, Samira Bawumia, also graced the occasion.
